Purchased a refurbed iPad Air 5th gen (2022) for 700EURO this week and it arrived today. Opened the box, went through initial setup which was unusually short, signed in to Apple ID and noticed I could not install any apps. I also could not update the iOS. Restarted the device and was met with a message that said “Demo update in progress” for a brief moment. Looked online and learned that I have been sold a store Demo Device which was likely stolen from an Apple Store. I tried resetting the device via “Find My” on my iCloud as suggested online and it has now completely locked me out of the device with the message “Property of Apple, please return to a nearby Apple store” rendering it a useless brick. Confirming this is most likely a stolen store “Demo” device. Tried calling the support number on the site and was met with “not registered on network”. Have filled out the customer support form but am yet to hear back. If i didn’t have an ounce of hope that this will be rectified I would be saying it is a straight up scam and will definitely be escalating if this is not resolved soon.
