Indiegogo “seems like a great idea” – and it is for genuine start ups. However, it is heaven for SCAMMERS as there are no effective monitoring and prevention processes put in place by Indiegogo itself. It takes no responsibility for anything and relies heavily on Caveat Emptor principles.Scammers have worked out how to set up their scams so Indiegogo doesn’t detect (or care) about them since Indiegogo will receive their commission fee regardless. There are multiple calls for this to be looked at under the racketeering laws in multiple US states – for effectively this is what the platform has become.Fraud and the facilitation of fraudulent campaigns should be cracked down on by the Federal authorities in the USA.This is such a shame for genuine creators doing their best – maybe Kickstarter is somewhat better but there are still failures. My “failure rate” of backing creators in Indiegogo has now hit such a level that I will no longer be able to support ANY creators on this platform.
