My bank rejected the charge as a scam, which doesn’t necessarily mean it is, but the moment it didn’t go though, I got a call from some phone bank in India claiming to be from Venmo (as my credit card is — not sure how they could tell) and started asking for irrelevant personal info. I called the real bank behind the card and they explained the rejection (which I now agree with!) and I got a new card.
