Carwiz

I wish I’d checked the reviews before I rented from Car Wiz. I recognise all the scams that others have mentioned relating to a rental from Pula Airport. There is mention of the E1400 deposit on their website. They make a very strong case for taking their extra daily insurance of (I think) E32. We had the car for 12 days so this wasn’t something I was going to take when I had my own excess insurance. Then there was a E70 charge to take it over a border (in our case to Slovenia) even though we were returning it to Pula. Like others we were encouraged to take our own pictures & video, which is a good thing as it turned out. We were certain we had not scraped the car at all, but a small scratch was found on the bumper – that’s E290 – and a hardly seen scratch on the next body panel – that’s another E290. This is so small it doesn’t even show on my dropping off photo. Add a ‘processing charge’ and VAT and that’s E800. These weren’t on our original photos so I recognise they’re payable but this seems excessive. He tried to make a case for a small dent on the bumper but I successfully argued this from my photos as being there already (that would have been E478). It left a very sour taste after what had been a great holiday. They seemed determined to find some damage to make up for the fact that we hadn’t bought their insurance. All the necessary paperwork to claim off my excess insurance was readily provided but they get their excessive amount of money immediately and I have the hassle of trying to claim. If I’m successful the insurance company will have been scammed. Someone may have scraped our side, but it’s doubtful. If you’re renting with them, my advice is to keep a close eye on them throughout the time when they ‘check’ your car and don’t get distracted by finding the photos to disprove other alleged scratches.
