We actually found one great sitter from care.com, but they are not transparent about their charges and it feels really scammy. We paid for a 1-year membership thinking that that was it–you pay the membership but not a fee for each transaction, and that’s how it was at first. But then all of a sudden when we wanted to post a job, we had to go through an automated process that inflated the sitters’ hourly rate (you can see what the sitter said her rate was and what care.com charged was $4/hr higher) and then added a fee that was always in excess of $17, even though we paid for a whole year’s membership. When I emailed the company, they gave me this pathetic answer, as if this “policy” makes things transparent. Notice how it says “Fees are subject to change.”Care.com’s mission is to provide the very best platform in the world for care, and we continually invest in tools and features to help families connect with great caregivers. In order to support the ongoing development of the site and provide you with a high-quality booking experience, we charge a nominal service fee for each booking. Please note that, as part of your Premium membership, the fee is automatically discounted (no promo code needed!). Fees are subject to change.” Sorry, but $17 fee for a 3-hour booking is not “nominal” I can provide screenshots upon request.
